Gateshead International Jazz Festival returns to The Sage

The Gateshead International Jazz Festival returns for its eighth year at The Sage, giving people staying in hostels in Newcastle the chance to see some of the world's top jazz musicians.

Jazz musicians from every corner of the globe are heading to the iconic Sage Gateshead, the architectural masterpiece that stands proud on the banks of the River Tyne.

Among them is Roberto Fonseca, the acclaimed Cuban pianist. Fonseca will open the festival in the venue's Hall One, weaving traditional Cuban music with jazz, classical and Afro-Cuban music for a stunning performance.

Having learned his trade as part of the famous Buena Vista Social Club, Fonseca is part of the new generation of Cuban jazz musicians.

Not to be out done, old Social Club master Ibrahim Ferrer will also be performing with his band.

Other concerts from the likes of Porkchop and James Brown's saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis will also feature in the headline-packed festival.

The Gateshead International Jazz Festival runs from Friday March 23rd until Sunday March 25th at The Sage Gateshead.

Tickets are priced individually per concert and can be bought from the venue's website.
