The King's Speech gets world premiere at Newcastle Theatre Royal

When The King's Speech comes to the newly refurbished Theatre Royal for its world premiere on stage, people staying in Newcastle hostels will get the first glimpse of the celebrated production.

When David Seidler first wrote The King's Speech he can scarcely have imagined that it would go on to win four Oscars, including Best Picture.

Charles Edwards takes the reigns from Colin Firth – who won the Best Actor Oscar as King George VI - while Jonathan Hyde plays his speech therapist Lionel Logue who battles to help the newly-crowned king overcome his debilitating stammer.

Queen Elizabeth is played by Emma Fielding following the stellar performance by Helena Bonham-Carter.
